The water leak

November 20-21st, 2024

We were getting ready to visit Washington, D.C. We’ve been there before, but we wanted to take a walk with Meeko from Capitol Hill to the Lincoln Memorial. Poor little guy! He had behaved like a champ all the way from L’Île-Perrot, staying quiet in the car and enduring the long drives with us. So, we wanted to take him on a long walk in a place where we knew there were plenty of nice things for us to see.

Well, not so fast! While getting dressed, we noticed water leaking from under the bed. We opened the drawers and found even more water. Here’s a video to give you an idea:

We spent the morning removing the furniture to dry everything under, making phone calls left and right — to the Jackson Center (the mothership), Airstream of Virginia, our dealer back in Montreal, two other dealers for our water heater brand (first availability December 9th), and several “mobile RV technicians” — until we finally found an Airstream dealer in Charlotte, NC with availability the next day at 11 AM. It was at least a 7-hours drive to get there.

We left Harwood after lunch, drove until nightfall and until exhaustion was kicking in. We spent the night at a KOA in Greensboro, North Carolina, before hitting the road again the next day. We made it on time for our appointment.

Then we had to spend the night in a hotel with Meeko. We took the opportunity to explore a bit of Charlotte’s SouthPark area, enjoy a king-sized bed, and watch a movie on a 65″ TV 🙂

In the end, there was nothing broken inside the water heater. Back in Montreal, when the trailer was winterized, they forgot to close two valves inside the water heater. So, when we de-winterized it, well… you know the outcome. On a different note, they found issues with the brakes and fixed them the next day.

Conclusion: A stressful couple of days, but everything should be good now, we’re ready to start our vacation and enjoy the warm 20°C weather.

À tantôt!
