White Sands National Park, New Mexico, was a place that made us grateful for our trip three times in the same day — we did not expect it to be so beautiful!!

In the Dominican Republic, you have those stunning white sand beaches. Here at White Sands, there’s no water, but the same kind of pristine white sand stretches as far as the eye can see. It’s majestic, serene, and peaceful. We went at the end of the day to catch the sunset colors, and it was just… wow.
Holloman Air Force Base is close to the park, and they regularly conduct military tests in the area, which means the access road might be closed at times. We were lucky — everything was open, and we could visit. Phew, since we were there for only one day!

As we walked and walked on the white dunes, we finally understood all the warning messages you see when entering the park: make sure you “mark a spot” to help you find your way back — and make sure that spot isn’t a dune or a drawing in the sand, as the wind can erase that quickly. So, we used some wooden pillars (probably marking a trail) as our guiding spot… yet, to our surprise, we still ended up farther away than where we had parked our car. I guess it is easy to get lost 🙂
Meeko has loved sand ever since he first discovered it last summer, and he always gets crazy excited whenever he gets the chance to play in it. Let’s just say that this endless expanse of sand made him absolutely thrilled! He got exhausted and “crashed down” a few times. Here are a few photos and videos of him having the time of his life. We had a blast too! 🙂

Once the sun went down, we were surprised by how quickly the temperature dropped. So, it was time to head back to our campground in Alamogordo, New Mexico — but not before nature played another “mind trick” on us. See for yourself in the video below!
