You might think our trip is all “milk and honey”—everything great all the time, with vacations, campfires every evening, and so on.
That’s one part — the nice part. But there are also days when we’re tired and just don’t feel like doing anything, just resting. There are days when we move: packing takes about an hour, then we’re on the road for 3-4 hours, and unpacking at our destination takes another hour… so by the end of those days, we’re exhausted! And yet, we still have to prepare dinner, walk the dog, and so on. We joke with our friends, saying, “We’re busy doing nothing,” but actually, our days get packed with small things like this.
We have seen amazing places, experienced new things, met wonderful people, and had time to relax and enjoy the moment.
Yesterday was not one of those days. We stopped in Tucson, Arizona, for some “maintenance” days. Meeko needed grooming, as it was getting too hot for him in Arizona’s beautiful warm weather. The freezer needed defrosting, the fridge needed cleaning, and the laundry needed to be done. The floor also needed washing (again) because dirty Meeko had brought in sand on his furry paws, and the floor was disgusting!
We also had to take Beauty (our Airstream) to service to replace an exterior rivet that required specific tools (which we don’t have) to fix.
After a day like this, you’re tired by the end of the day. On top of that, Meeko gets stress colitis every time he goes to the groomer, so we had to take him out to poop every two hours during the night… fun!
All this to say, there are days when “maintenance” and boring tasks need to happen. We’ve avoided sharing this side of the trip, but just so you know — it’s there.
Stay tuned for the nice days 🙂
À tantôt!
