It might seem like we stayed in Houston for a long time, but in reality, it was just Meeko, our truck, and our trailer that stayed longer— not us. As we mentioned in our previous posts, the whole reason for rushing from Florida to Houston was to leave Meeko with a friend so we could fly to Montreal and meet our grandson.

When we landed back in Houston from Montreal… all hell broke loose. The apocalypse was coming — the end of the world — choose your name! In Quebec winter, we would call that a regular day of the week, but in Houston and across the entire southeast coast of the U.S., everything came to a standstill due to snow and freezing temperatures. Houston airport shut down— luckily, the day after we landed…

What it meant for us was that we got stuck in the trailer, unable to visit anything or see our friends. We don’t have winter tires on the truck, and even if we did, many businesses were closed during this period since people couldn’t get to work. Here are some photos:

Also, since travel trailers are not meant to be used in winter (as pipes might burst due to freezing), we had to manage that carefully—keeping the heating at a higher temperature, dripping the faucets overnight, and leaving cabinet doors open to allow warm air to circulate around the water pipes. If that sounds stressful, it’s because it was! After all, we left Quebec to avoid snow and cold weather. The only one happy was Meeko 🙂

We did have a couple of days to spend with our friends and also visit the Museum of Natural Science, where we saw real dinosaurs, but other collections as well, like Faberge eggs, stones and so on.

À tantôt!
