Happy Birthday Meeko!

Happy Birthday to our sweet puppy! He turned 1 on November 24th. We were probably more excited about his birthday than he was. For him, it seemed like a regular day, although the extra attention and treats left him a bit confused. We also bought him a “Spoiled Dog” cookie. 🙂

He’s not that spoiled compared to other dogs we see online; it’s just that the only cookie we found at the pet store wasn’t Christmassy or themed like Frozen or something similar. We did want to mark this milestone — time has flown by so fast, and we just can’t believe he’s already 1 year old.

He still likes to wake up early (around 6:30–6:45 AM), not because he needs to go out, but because he craves attention. So every morning, one of us gets up to pet Meeko, give him belly rubs, and brush him. He’ll place his paw on our arm or leg to let us know he wants more, and when he’s had enough, he’ll go chew on his antler toy. This routine takes about 30 minutes each day. We’ve tried ignoring him in an attempt for us to get more sleep, but he makes sure to be vocal about his attention needs! 🙂 It is a nice way to start the day though — with his wagging tail greeting us. After all, it’s been a few hours since we’ve been “apart”… last evening 🙂

While his appearance has changed (from a tri-color black, white, and brown puppy to a grey and white adult), his personality remains as thrilling and perfectly suited to our lifestyle as ever. He’s goofy, clingy, loving, independent, quiet, vocal, obedient, and stubborn — all at once.
