You might ask, where is Harwood? It’s a small town in Maryland, about an hour away from Washington, D.C. It took us two days to get there, with a first stop at a KOA campground in Pennsylvania.
We left L’Île-Perrot early Monday morning, around 6:15 AM. We planned a six-hour drive for the day to get further south quickly, where temperatures are above freezing. Our trailer had been winterized, so until nighttime temperatures rose above 0°C/32°F, we couldn’t use water.
We reached our destination eight hours later—exhausted, starving, and shaking, but we had covered 736 km heading south, and the temperature was a warm 19°C.
Here is a video of crossing the Thousand Island Bridge at the US border.
We spent the night in Jonestown, PA and then hit the road again in the morning, heading toward Maryland. We chose to stay at a Harvest Hosts location: HopScratch Farm, as we were craving a good steak and they sold local meat. The place was a little oasis with horses, sheep, chickens, and cows.

Meeko interacted with horses for the first time! What a joy to see this!
We really enjoyed our stay… until the next morning, when we noticed the freshwater tank had dropped significantly and water was leaking from under my bed: we had a water leak!
We were supposed to visit Washington, D.C., and then head to another Harvest Hosts location (a winery) in Delaware. Instead, we had to deal with the leak, completely change our plans, and hit the road for another six hours south to reach an Airstream dealer in Charlotte by 11 AM the next day to get it checked out. What a start to our trip!
À tantôt!
